Beats Against Bullets is a statewide music competition hosted by the Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP), empowering emerging artists ages 15–25 to raise their voices against gun violence through original rap or song lyrics. Contestants will write and perform to a beat provided by ASAP, using music as a tool for peace, purpose, and powerful storytelling. The winning artist will receive $1,000 and have their song widely promoted.

Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for young people in Alabama. This is why the competition focuses on the 15–25 age group—to give those most affected a powerful platform for change.

Rules:

  • No explicit or violent language

  • Lyrics must promote peace and anti-gun violence

  • Must use the beat provided by ASAP

  • Open to Alabama residents ages 15–25
